Mikheil Saakashvili met with the population gathered at the parade dedicated to Independence Day of Georgia and congratulated them personally. He spoke to them about the ongoing projects in Kutaisi and noted that the city infrastructure will gradually be set in order and local conditions will improve.

“We were only able to refurbish the facades on one side for now, but the other sides will also be refurbished soon. It was better to demolish all of these houses and rebuild them from scratch, but the country does not have the economic means for this. The apartments have become 3 times more expensive here because of the better water supply, refurbished facades, replaced roofs, and altered infrastructure …So I would like to tell those who say that we are building a country of one sided facades, that we are building a country of facades as well as the best country. We should have nice facades, nice people, and most importantly life should become better. These people will see serious progress by relocating the Parliament here. I cannot say that this solved every problem because many things remain undone yet – first of all, we should overcome poverty, but opportunities have emerged in a completely hopeless place and this is very important” – stated the President of Georgia while meeting the population of Kutaisi.

Mikheil Saakashvili also attended the closing event of the ceremony in front of the new Parliament building – classical music festival “Future of Georgia” in which world class Georgian and foreign stars participated along with young talented performers. Caroline Campbell, Khatia Buniatishvili, Nino Surguladze and others have arrived to participate in the festival.

The events dedicated to the independence day of Georgia ended with a grand fireworks display.
