The President of Georgia visited Kutaisi today and attended the opening ceremony of the central branch of the micro finance organization “GeoCapital”, which is located in a historic district of Kutaisi. Mikheil Saakashvili addressed the gathered audience and spoke about the importance of foreign investments, developing Kutaisi and the country in general. The head of GeoCapital’s board of supervisors Ralph Burleson, in his turn thanked the President of Georgia and noted that Kutaisi is one of the best places in the world in terms of investing, business climate, location, and qualified work force.

Later today, the Head of State toured the ongoing projects in Kutaisi. Mikheil Saakashvili expressed interest in the construction process of the new Parliament building and familiarized himself with the work.

“This was an auto factory neighborhood – one of the most devastated districts, not only in Kutaisi, but in all of Georgia. It was distinguished by the highest indicators of unemployment and catastrophic social conditions. Of course, not a lot has been done yet, but such a start is a huge stimulator not only in terms of employment, but in terms of infrastructure and long term economic development” – noted Mikheil Saakashvili.

The President also spoke about the beginning of the rehabilitation work in Tskaltubo, and noted that this place will become the main resort of Georgia. He also drew attention to the development of Abastumani, Sairme, and Akhaltsikhe. According to him, the resort centers that are going to be built in Georgia will make the entire world envious.

“We are beginning the rehabilitation work of Tskaltubo in 6 weeks. Based on my plan Tskaltubo will become the main resort of Georgia. This region has such resorts as Tskaltubo, Sairme, and Abastumani. Sairme will be connected to Abastumani via a new road and extraordinary projects will be implemented there too. From Abastumani we will travel to Akhaltsikhe, which for me personally is a great discovery. A lot of things are also being done in Borjomi. Aside from the Parliament building and the airport along with the administrative center, the best resorts are being built around Kutaisi too. We would not notice anything had we not started with this Parliament building and Kutaisi. Everything else followed this. This is truly a historic thing and future generations will definitely be proud of it” – stated the President.

The President of Georgia also visited the newly renovated theater named after Lado Meskhishvili, the “Karvasla,” and a new fountain. According to Mikheil Saakashvili, in a geographical sense, Kutaisi is the center of Georgia and the city is gaining this role in every direction.
