The President of Georgia hosted a high level delegation from the United States

Mikheil Saakashvili hosted the United States Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense Program, the Head of Walter Reed Military Research Institute - Andrew C. Weber along with a high level US Defense Department delegation.

Deepening relations and cooperation between Georgia and the United States was the main topic of discussion. The sides spoke about specific directions and spheres during the meeting. They also discussed the prospects of developing a Georgian American Central Public Healthcare Referral Laboratory for Georgia and for the region in general. It was also noted that, the laboratory has already been created and the first studies will begin in the near future. American military researchers will work at the lab within the scope of a Georgian – American partnership.

As the American side noted during the meeting, this lab is one of the main elements of the public healthcare system and it will bring important results in terms of epidemiology, biological research and food safety.
