The President of Georgia visited Svaneti

The President of Georgia visited Svaneti today. Mikheil Saakashvili toured the ongoing construction works and reviewed the process of implementing infrastructural projects. The Head of State and a Georgian singer – Niaz Diasamidze visited the 4 meter Bronze sculpture of King Tamar, which was designed according to an ancient Georgian image, created in the old Georgian style. Vaja Melikishviil and Shota Bostanashvili are the designers of the sculpture.

Mikheil Saakashvili also visited the main square of Mestia, where a piazza will soon be erected along with cafes and restaurants. There will be three hotels at the main square making it possible to host 80 guests simultaneously. The Head of State also inspected the construction of the museum and expressed interest in the current condition of artifacts that are centuries old. Mikheil Saakashvili also spoke with the construction workers and thanked them for keeping up the work process even in the worst kind of weather conditions. As they told the President, the construction works will end in July.

Mikheil Saakashvili later visited the new 2.5 kilometer ski run of Hatsvali. There are lighting posts installed along the run, creating an opportunity for the tourists to ski for 24 hours a day. Mikheil Saakashvili and Niaz Diasamidze tested the new run at night with other skiers. Mikheil Saakashvili drew attention to the lighting of the run and noted that Hatsvali now has a ski run which complies completely with Olympic standards. According to him, ski runs with such lighting are rare even in Europe.
