Mikheil Saakashvili met with the Deputy Secretary of State William Burns

The meeting of The President of Georgia and The Deputy Secretary of State William Burns was held in the Presidential Palace today. The sides discussed bilateral relations between Georgia and the United States and the co-operation issues within the scope of the Charter of Strategic Partnership. Mikheil Saakashvili talked with William Burns about the importance of democratic and economic reforms carried out in the country. On behalf of the government of the United States William Burns thanked The President of Georgia for participating in the ISAF program. The US Deputy Secretary of State focused attention on the bravery of the Georgian soldiers and thanked the Georgian people as well the families of the soldiers for the successful mission and wished them prosperous professional careers.

 

The meeting of Mikheil Saakashvili and William Burns was also attended by the Ambassador of the United States in Georgia - John Bass, Chairman of the National Security Council of Georgia – Giga Bokeria and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia – Sergi Kapanadze.

 

William Burns has been theDeputy Secretary of State since July 28, 2011. He has been actively engaged in international politics since 1982.
