President of Georgia Met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Iran

On November 4, 2010, President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Manouchehr Mottaki in the Georgian Black Sea city of Batumi.

The President of Georgia and the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran discussed bilateral and international issues. The sides emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of tourism, people-to-people contacts and youth exchanges between the two countries. It was decided during the meeting that studies of Persian language and Iranian history and culture will deepen in Georgia.

The President of Georgia stressed the significance of the Iranian Government's support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

President Saakashvili expressed support for further dialogue and official contacts and development of legal instruments between Georgia and Iran.

The President of Georgia stressed the importance of resuming negotiations in the P5+1 format addressing concerns over Iran's nuclear program.  

President Saakashvili expressed concern over the situation regarding the pending execution of the Iranian woman, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani.
