The Spokesperson of the President of Georgia at the briefing spoke about Mikheil Saakashvili’s visit in the United States

The Spokesperson of President of Georgia Manana Manjgaladze held the briefing. The main subject of the briefing was Mikheil Saakashvili's visit in the United States. "President has a busy program and his scheduled meetings exceed number of 90" - Manana Manjgaladze said.

Mikheil Saakashvili has already delivered a speech on the world's sustainable development associated program - the Millennium Development Goals Summit commissioned by United Nations 10 years ago.

"In fact, 15 minute speech was focused on the problems and challenges, achievements and tasks which meet the demands of the program. In addition, the President was not only focused on internal problems and took more attention on global issues that represents problems for Georgia as well and the government attempts to overcome it. The President pointed on education and healthcare field, poverty reduction issues, which is the base of political stability. In this regard, he presented his views to the audience. Mikheil Saakashvili also spoke about local business development and accordingly, on the fight against the corruption. For that reason, our country can be an example in Post Soviet space, though the final result is not achieved yet ", - Manana Manjgaladze said.

In his speech Mikeil Saakashvili conducted ecology discussions in an entirely different hand. In particular, ecological problems on occupied territories, more specifically, complicate situation in Abkhazia, which is related to the Olympic Games of 2014 preparatory activities in Sochi. Already carried out and current works may create a serious threat in terms of environmental protection. This danger does not threaten only to Georgia or to the region. Fighting the problem President Saakashvili summoned international community.  

In addition the President of Georgia will attend United Nations General Assembly's 65th Session and deliver a speech on 23rd of September, 2010.

During the visit, there are several official two-way and multilateral meetings scheduled, including the world leaders.

"Mikheil Saakashvili already met the European High Commissioner Jose Manuel Barroso and Euro Commissioner Catherine Ashton. Discussion was focused on integration with European structures and energy projects. Mikheil Saakashvili also held negotiations with Ivo Josipović, President of Croatia. The President of Georgia invited Croatian college in Georgia. The speech between Georgian and Croatian Presidents was focused on economic issues but discussion of these topics will continue in the future in Tbilisi", - Spokesperson noted.

As Manana Manjgaladze says this visit is especially important because only a short while ago the UN General Assembly adopted a special resolution regarding to Georgia, in particular to refugees in the country.
