President Saakashvili reshuffles government officials

12/22/2005

President Mikheil Saakashvili at a National Security Council meeting on December 22 announced that Chairman of the Central Election Commission Gia Kavtaradze will replace Kote Kemularia as Minister of Justice, and that Kemularia will be appointed as the Secretary of the National Security Council.
The President also said that Deputy Public Defender Bacho Akhalaia will replace Shota Kopadze as chief of the penitentiary system .

"This is a minor reshuffle; no further reshuffle will take place. Everyone will continue doing their job. In the future fewer changes will take place because the Georgian government has become an efficient team, which has no desire to conduct experiments. We have an efficient cabinet of ministers. The results are apparent. Georgia can't be built in a day, but the building process is very fast which is a merit of this government. In case we don't see actual results we might think of changing the whole cabinet; however I don't see the need to this way. The whole government is stable; the ministers and the Prime Minister work efficiently. Nothing is more important for us than the efficiency of the civil service and stability," President Saakashvili said.
