Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has met Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in Astana. At a joint news conference it was announced that Kazakhstan would invest in a wheat-processing plant in Poti and an oil refinery in Batumi. Saakashvili said the construction of the refinery was an "enormous" project that would cost 1bn dollars.
President Saakashvili expressed his hope that the projects would have a positive influence on Georgia's economy as well as that of the region as a whole.
Saakashvili discussed issues concerning rail and air transport, including Kazakh investment in Georgia's transport infrastructure.
Also today the Georgian and Kazakh representatives signed an agreement on international road service.
