President Saakashvili transfers property seized from crime bosses to Interior, Defence Ministries

8/13/2007

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili today officially transferred properties in Ureki that formerly belonged to crime bosses Kalashov and Mdinaradze to the Interior and Defence Ministries. Saakashvili noted that the buildings would house rehabilitation facilities for police and military personnel injured in the line of duty.

"These houses will be turned into sanatoria, rehabilitation centres. Policemen and Defence Ministry personnel injured in the line of duty will undergo rehabilitation therapy at the state's expense. When I was in Upper Abkhazia I saw how amazingly committed and well trained and equipped our officers were. Of course the state should value these people and provide them with treatment," President Saakashvili said.
