Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili today visited the town of Telavi in eastern Georgia, where he opened new tennis courts.
"I believe that Telavi can truly become a top-class European city. It is a city of great culture and traditions, where very good people live. When these tennis courts were being built several local residents gave the construction workers money to paint their houses as well. They reasoned that there should be not ugly houses next to these beautiful courts. This is the mark of a real society. All of us together are making Kakheti one of the best regions and returning to it its status of cultural and architectural masterpiece."
Prior to arriving in Telavi, Saakashvili visited the village of Kachreti, where he opened a vocational training centre. The centre will train some 400 students each year in the fields of agriculture, bread/grain product production, wood processing and automobile repair. Those wishing to study at the facility will receive instruction in nine areas. Instruction will be fully financed by the state. The president toured the facility's newly refurbished wine cellar, sports hall and computer centre.
