Yesterday acting president Nino Burjanadze held a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Acting President Burjanadze had informed Rice about recent developments in Georgia, the existing situation and the importance of holding transparent and fair presidential elections on January 5. Nino Burjanadze stressed to Rice her commitment to ensuring the holding of the upcoming lections to international standards. She said that to monitor the election process, the Georgian government invited a wide spectrum of observers. Burjanadze also informed Rice about the decision of the Georgian government to allow all media outlets operate to their full extent.
Rice, during the telephone conversation, expressed full support of the U.S. towards Georgia and particularly underscored the importance of holding democratic elections on January 5. She welcomed the Georgian government's decision to allow Imedi TV back on air.
