Upcoming presidential elections, scheduled for January 5, 2008, and related issues were the main subjects of conversation during the meeting of Georgia's acting president Nino Burjanadze and president of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) Kenneth Wollak.
Nino Burjanadze and Mr. Wollak discussed the involvement of international organizations' representatives in the pre-election campaign and the election process as well as the importance of increasing the number of observers. Nino Burjanadze emphasized her efforts to ensure the presence of many observers at the elections. She said that every presidential candidate had equal rights during the pre-election campaign which was an absolutely natural occurrence.
At the meeting it was noted that both, the government and the opposition should equally share the responsibility in order to ensure democracy and transparency of the elections.
