Acting president Nino Burjanadze yesterday and today held telephone conversations with president of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of the Republic of Latvia Valda Zatlera, and President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus. The main subject of conversation was the existing situation in Georgia, the latest developments and the importance of holding fair and transparent elections on January 5.
While talking with the European countries' leaders, Nino Burjanadze stressed that she would make every effort to ensure full conformity of the upcoming presidential elections with international standards. She said that in an effort to monitor the election process and ensure objective evaluation, the Georgian government and she personally, had invited a large spectrum of international organizations and national parliamentary observers.
During the conversation with the acting president the leaders demonstrated their full support towards Georgia and expressed their readiness to actively involve their government representatives in the monitoring of the elections.
