President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili is holding meetings in Munich

Today the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili met the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. The main topic of this meeting was the perspective of Georgia's integration into the Euro-Atlantic alliance. NATO integration issue was discussed during Mikheil Saakashvili's and US Assistant Secretary Daniel Fried's meeting, the delegation from Georgian government and several Senators attended this meeting as well. Beside these issues, Georgian-American relations and future cooperation, and Georgian-Russian relations were discussed as well. After this meeting it became clear that US will adopt a special resolution on its support of Georgia's and Ukrain's integration into the NATO. According to the statement made by Russian Federation Vice-Premier Sergei Ivanov, he is not going to interfere this process, as he does not consider it necessary. Sergei Ivanov thinks that this is only NATO and NATO member countries matter. He made this statement at the press conference held after the conference was over.

Before the meetings begun in Munich, the President of Georgia met the delegation from the Russian Federation. After the speech made by the President of Georgia, where he spoke of Moscow issues, the representative of Russia Konstantine Kosachov asked him about this issue. Saakashvili stated, that, it does not matter whether Georgia recognizes Kosovo's independency or not, this problem will be solved positively any way. The President of Georgia returned a question to Konstantin Kosachov, he expressed his interest, on the Russian sides attitude on the recognition of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, after Kosovo problem is solved.

"Nothing much will be changed if Georgia recognizes or not Kosovo's independence. But if you recognize the separatist regime, the situation will be changed in the whole region. This is why your considerations interest me" - stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
