President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili summed up the results of Obama-Medvedev meeting at the Security Council session and spoke about the situation in Georgia on the background of existing international situation.
As Mikheil Saakashvili noted despite the serious threat that existed, after US-Russian Presidents' meeting in Moscow it became clear that there is no Russian aggression threat on Georgia.
"I think everyone guesses that Russia was planning another war against Georgia, which could have brought terrible results and would have turned us into the twenties, but fortunately enough with the support of our strategic partners and the whole democratic world they weren't given this chance. The first serious message on Georgia's support from the civilized world was sent to Russia in New York at the UN Security Council session where they were urged to use the Veto. In spite of this they still hoped that US wouldn't be so principal though Obama quite obviously fixed his supportive position towards Georgia", stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
Mikheil Saakashvili said that since Georgia avoided another military threat from Russia, Georgia is given a chance of further development. "Georgia must inevitably progress and first of all we mean real de-occupation of the occupied regions. I hope in this we will have active support from the democratic states", stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
Mikheil Saakashvili said that Russia had to major plans to gain their influence on Georgia - first of all the support of internal disorder and on the other hand political merchandise on international arena.
"Russia, on the one hand, actively tried and is still trying to cause internal instability and Russian money was coming in and is still coming in to finance various political forces. On the other hand on the international political arena Russia was actively trying to merchandise at any political price, being it - the Afghanistan issue or reducing nuclear weapons and thus gain influence on Georgia. Our partners didn't turn their backs from us and there was no trade", stated President Saakashvili.
President Saakashvili said that Russia couldn't realize any of this plans on the contrary it worsened its political situation. "Russia in the result of the aggression against Georgia, found itself in a very difficult situation. Though we suffered a great pane and lost the territories, which is number one problem for us it would not adequate to compare the situation in Russia with ours. The aggression towards us turned into a global political problem for Russia", stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
