Mikheil Saakashvili met Hilary Clinton

9/22/2009

"The United States of America supports Georgia and it is obvious", - stated Hilary Clinton before meeting with the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.

It was not envisaged by protocol to make a statement for the media, but Secretary of State expressed her wish to make a comment.

As Hillary Clinton pointed out the US is obliged to defend Europe in future, this is why it does everything in order to make Russia fulfill all the conditions envisaged in ceasefire agreement.

"I want to welcome friends from the country that the US supports in defending territorial integrity and sovereignty. We are working to try to ensure that Russia abides by the 2008 ceasefire, and hopefully to eventually reintegrate your country as it should be. We also know that working toward democracy and the changes that you're attempting to achieve are challenging, but we want to support and encourage the steps that need to be taken. And the United States supports Georgia, and we want to make that very clear", stated the Secretary of State.

The President of Georgia expressed his gratitude towards Hilary Clinton in her former position in the Senate as well as in the position of the Secretary of State for all her support to Georgia.

"It is great honor for us to be here today, I want to thank you for all your support in the last years, in the Senate as well as in your present position of Secretary of State. A new stage of relations has begun between US and Georgia during the term of new Administration" stated the President of Georgia and spoke about Hillary Clinton's last article where her support towards Georgia was once again mentioned.
