The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili left for Ukraine to pay a two-day working visit

The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili left for Ukraine to pay a two-day working visit. An official welcome ceremony was held in Kiev; together with the other high-rank officials, the Mayor of Kiev attended the ceremony as well. Later, a tte--tte meeting between the two Presidents was held.

Saakashvili spoke Ukrainian with Yushenko and it was especially pleasant for the President of Ukraine. Great attention was paid to the existing situation in Caucasian region. At the end the document was signed on active cooperation between the Ministries of Justice.

The Presidents summed up their tte--tte meeting at a special briefing. Mikheil Saakashvili expressed his gratitude to his counterpart for the assistance in August 2008.

The President of Georgia spoke about the existing situation in Georgia after the Russian aggression and about the international support.

The President of Ukraine once again confirmed his support towards Georgia's sovereignty. As he stated the basis for national security policy is integration into European countries.

The security project is the way by which Ukraine and Georgia make the adaptation of the politics and move towards NATO.

Mikheil Saakashvili and Victor Yushenko discussed issues on the cooperation between the two countries.

Ukraine will get involved and will invest in the project of Poti free economic zone. "We productively work daily in the frames of European East Partnership Program, on bilateral as well as GUAM neighboring policy. Today's meeting is the next possibility to make our friendly relations firm", stated Mikheil Saakashvili.

Victor Yushenko pointed out that the interests of Georgia and Ukraine on the major issues coincide. "We have relations with Georgia based on great traditions and respect. Our interests on all major issues coincide, which is a pre-condition for deepening and continuing our relations", Yushenko noted.

The President of Ukraine thanked Mikheil Saakashvili for the humanitarian assistance carried out by Georgia in the period of H1N1 virus epidemic.
