On June 16 President Mikheil Saakashvili left for Kiev to participate in an Extraordinary Ukraine Roundtable within the framework of the World Economic Forum.
Before the beginning of the forum President Saakashvili met with the President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The Presidents discussed the issues of the conflict regions and joint economic projects, specifically Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
„Solution of Dniestr conflict by giving consideration to the interests of Moldova is important to us. Ukraine with Georgia and Moldova has a full capacity to build the case of the resolution of Dniestr conflict," President Saakashvili said.
According to President Saakashvili a large number of states participating in the forum points to the fact that the regional cooperation alliance SUAM is attractive. Therefore active cooperation to integrate these countries into the SUAM is under way with Romania and the Baltic states.
At the end of the first day of the forum the Presidents of Estonia, Poland and Georgia held a summing up press conference and discussed the importance of the SUAM and the possibility of its future extension. President Aleksander Kwasniewski of Poland put an emphasis on the integration of Ukraine into the EU.
„We are trying to consolidate various countries around Ukraine. Ukraine is a leader in this region. We want to establish a democrats club. Kiev Club informally already exists and we do not know yet what it would be like when it becomes formal. Now we are holding active negotiations with various country leaders," President Saakashvili said.
