President Saakashvili to visit Greece on 1-2 October

On 1 October Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili will pay an official visit to the Republic of Greece. First he will hold a face-to-face meeting with Greek President Karolos Popoulias, after which the two presidents will take part in a wider meeting between the Georgian delegation and Greek officials. Afterwards, the Georgian and Greek presidents will hold a joint news conference, after which Saakashvili will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens.

That same day Saakashvili will meet Greek Parliament President Dimitris Sioufas and opposition leader Georgios Papandreou, as well as visit the Acropolis and the National Archaeological Museum.

On 2 October the president will meet Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis and Athens mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis. During the visit the president will be awarded a gold medal of honour from the city of Athens.

At the end of the visit, Saakashvili and his Greek counterpart will hold a face-to-face meeting to sum up the visit. Saakashvili will also tour the island of Mount Athos.
