President Saakashvili visits Guria, in western Georgia
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili today travelled to the Guria region. He visited the family of World War II veteran Tariel Chkhikvadze and his wife Shura Tsintsadze in the village of Chaisubani in Chokhotauri District and personally congratulated them on the 62nd anniversary of the victory over fascim.
"You come a family that was a victim of the purges. Your father was executed in 1937. You fought in the Great Patriotic War, and your wife took part in the war effort. The Georgian people have traditionally lost the most warriors in every war. Georgia has produced heroic soldiers in every war. This must not be forgotten," Saakashvili said.
Later today, Saakashvili visited the centre of the town of Chokhatauri together with Chkhikvadze and toured a newly renovated school. There, he was shown classrooms equipped with modern computer systems and promised the children an assembly hall and a sports field.
"We have come here today to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the victory over fascism. Tariel Chkhikvadze, who is from your town, is a great man who fought heroically and glorified Georgia," Saakashvili said
